Arras

Taroko worth visiting,

Eating in Taiwan

Taiwan - full of WC anywhere, no public trash bin in streets
No trash bin on streets of Taiwan but public toilets everywhere! Why? The trash collect system is very strange in Taiwan. The trash collect truck passes in a neighborhood in certain moments of the day, they diffuse a music as that of ice cream car. Then, each household needs to bring down their own trash to the truck. It was said that some people had brought their domestic trash into the public trash can. In consequence, the government removed all public trash cans on the street. We can find only a few trash cans in subway stations or train stations

Montsouris Square

Bordeaux

Fontainebleau
(Barbizon)

Los Angels, California, USA
Los Angeles, the second biggest city in the USA. The weather there is very comfortable, mild in winter and hot in summer. Maybe the best weather zone in the USA. No wonder a lot of Chinese immigrants there. Chinese food and shops are every where. There are also a lot of Spanish speaking residence there

The county of Los Angeles is very big. A car is needed to get around and there is always trafic jam.

Universal Studio is a must see. The longest queue is the Studio tour. I'll advise you to queue in the line of « 2 riders » even if you are a family of 4 or 6. The queue is much faster and the seats are always at the edge so you see better.

Bryce Canon, Utah, USA
Bryce Canon is 350km North East of Las Vegas in Utah. It is a national park and less touristic than Grand Canyon. 25 USD for entry fee. We passed one night there but one can spend a week too. There are a lot to do: hiking, climbing rocks and horse riding visit.

We arrived in the afternoon and drove to Bryce point where we saw mountains or seas of rock pillars and grottos. The scene is quite unreal, like in a film. Walked from Bryce point to Sunset point. From there, we have hiked along Navajo Loop and Queen's Garden Loop. We have crossed only a few people. It was sun set when we arrived at Sunrise point. No need to descript the beauty of the golden rays on the red sand pillars.

Las Vegas - Unreal city
It was a kind of excitement for the children whom went to Las Vegas for the 1st time and for us whom went there almost 20 years ago!

Our first stop, Factory Outlets. We were supposed to stop for a drink and we ended up staying 3 hours.

The hotels are very impressive as you can see from the photos. It seems all the world is there: Paris, New York, Luxor, Venice...etc. Make sure you have a high memory card for your camera. Among all hotels, we like Bellagio, Paris and Venetian.

Hearst Castle, California, USA
Hearst Castle is one of the most impressive castles that I have visited.

Built at the top of hillside at San Simeon. The site itself is magnific. The castle is like a palace. There are 56 rooms, 61 bathrooms, 19 salons, 127 acres of garden, outside and inside swimming pools, tennis court and a cinema. There was also a zoo before. Now, a few animals are still present.

The castle is built for William Randolph Hearst, king of press empire in the States. The film Citizen Kane was inspired by his history.

Monterey Bay, California, USA
Monterey Bay is at the South of San Francisco at the Pacific coast. On the pier, there is an atmosphere of Fishermen's Wharf years ago.

17 Miles Drive is not far from Monterey Bay and it is absolutely a place to visit. It is a toll feee road, USD9.5 but it is worth paying. Is it because of the entry fee that there are not so many tourists. Anyway, this make it more charming and romantic.

In such area, no need to say that there are lots of beautiful villas. The beaches are of pebbles due to granite on the sea coast.

Yosemite Park, USA
Yosemite is one of the most beautiful and most visited National Park in the States. From San Francisco, we drove through Highway 120 to this park. It is about 4 hours' drive.

The park is very big. Thought there is shuttle bus circulating in the park, it is more convenient to drive one's car.

We arrived in early afternoon. After a small hiking around Tuolumne Grove Loop. We drove up to Glacier Point to watch sunset. Note that some roads are only one way so better plan your route before.

San Francisco, California, USA
San Francisco is one of the cities that I may consider to live. In the city, we can go around easily by public transport. The tramway going up and down the slopy landscape certainly adds charm to San Francisco. It is unique. Some roads are really very steep, so steep that I was scared that the car will slide down. In fact, there do have special instructions for parking.

There is a strong presence of Chinese, especially Cantonese speaking. I have not eaten such good Hong Kong style stew beef (at Hon's Wun-Tun House)for a long time.

Ghent -Hidden treasure
Lonely Planet describe Ghent as one of the most beautiful European city. Mitterrand, ex French President also named Ghent as the most pretty historial European city. Yet, few people known Ghent. When we said we are going to Ghent, French people thought it was Caen in France.

Ghent is only two and half hours train from Paris. It is easy to get around in the city by tram, bus or just walking. The city is full of historical monuments. Sometimes, we feel like we are in Brugge or Amsterdam especially when we are in the boat ride.
