#HumpDay myth: Did you know why West Lake is also referred to as The Golden Cow Lake (金牛湖) by locals? In ancient Han, the Golden Cow used to be a guardian living at the bottom of West Lake. At times of long-term absence of rain, it's believed that the Golden Cow would appear and protect the area from drought. One day, a group of corrupt officials ordered peasants to drag away all the water from the lake, hoping to pay the Golden Cow as a tribute to the emperor. In its rage, the cow flooded the entire lake with all water it had. Ever since then, West Lake has not experienced drought anymore, just so marking the end of the Golden Cow mystery.
